Fans are hounding McDonald’s with absurd questions about their beloved mascot — and the fast food chain isn’t having it.
A customer went to the fast food restaurant’s website and typed in the search bar, “How is Grimace born?”
Their search returned zero results, of course, and they uploaded a screenshot to X with the caption, “Unbelievable.”
But the person behind the chain’s social media seemed exhausted by the silly question and responded with a simple “*sigh*”.
When another user pointed out how “outrageous” the question was, the seemingly bemused McD’s rep replied, “It’s just another day for me.”
One user said, “This needs to be studied,” but the fast food chain shot back, “Really?” accompanied by a crying emoji.
The original poster of the screenshot responded to McDonald’s exasperated sigh by asking, “Answer the question, McDonald’s,” to which the chain replied, “I just started sweating.”
“I guess some things are better left a mystery,” wrote one user – with the restaurant’s X account agreeing, “Feel the same.”
Another person shared his theory about the birth of the purple mascot.
“Grimace started as a monster summoned by McDonald’s drinks, specifically milkshakes. It means that he is a thought entity”, they write. “Essentially, Grimace does not grow to propagate as a species, instead relying on McDonald’s customers for continued existence.”
However, this theory cannot be true – because Grimace is not a monster.
And what the amorphous character actually is remains a matter of great debate.
In 2021, Brian Bates, an award-winning manager of a McDonald’s in Canada, revealed to CBC News that Grimace is “a big taste bud, but a taste bud nonetheless.”
He told the media that Grimace serves to show that the food tastes good.
However, in 2012, McDonald’s corporate account posted: “Grimace is the epitome of a milkshake, though others still insist it’s a taste bud.”
“Whether it’s a snack, a milkshake or just your favorite purple blob — the best part about Grimace is that it means different things to different people,” a McDonald’s spokesperson told People in 2021. ” Whatever it is, we’re just proud our goodness makes people happy.”
Whether Grimace is a taste bud or “the epitome of a milkshake,” it seems the bride just doesn’t grow up — and if so, the fast food chain thinks the process is best left unknown.
